My Creative Process for Creating Content for the Web

What’s up guys! It’s Carlton and I’m back for another post where I will talk about the development process that I use when I am creating content for the web. In this post I’m going to dive further into the discovery phase of creating a web site. I will talk about using a CMS (Content Management System) as a tool to promote or build just a part or your entire web site. I will also talk about SEO or Search Engine Optimization.

Catch Up

If you read my last post, then you should already know that creating a site takes time. Creating an interesting web site requires planning and research. If you want to drive quality traffic to your site, you must aim to create compelling and worthwhile content.

city traffic

Successful blogging requires creating useful content.

When Creating for the Web, Content is King

Again the keywords here are content, content, content. Just as with real estate, if the neighborhood is not of quality then no one is going to want to visit. Aim for quality, engaging content. Separate yourself from the competition and include a WordPress ( Drupal and Joomla are two more options) blog to your site. Or you could build your entire site using WordPress if you’d like. WordPress is a very powerful platform and it is capable of being used for building a simple blog to an ecommerce web site. The web sites for CNN, Ford, Xerox and Mashable are a few of the more well-known corporations that have built their entire web sites using WordPress. Writing a blog could be another component of your web site strategy.

What makes your content different from any other blog? Why would anyone want to take the time to visit my useless web site? If you can’t answer this question then you aren’t quite ready to publish your site yet.

Connect Globally through Social Media

Do you use social media? Social media can be used as a highly effective promotional tool. Not sure how to tweet? Just create a Twitter account, Google a couple of “how-to” videos on YouTube and just start doing it. It’s pretty easy. Don’t have a Facebook page yet? You might be missing out on an untouched audience for you venture. Basically, if you aren’t harnessing the power of social media, then you might be missing out.

Leverage the power of social media sites

Social media is a powerful, FREE promotional tool.

Connect and engage in conservation with your audience. Initiate a dialogue with your readers. Be respectful (nobody wants to talk to a douche bag) of your audience. Be consistent. Aim to create posts to your blog as frequently as possible. This gives a people a reason to visit and visit often. Plus, frequent, consistent posts are wonderful for SEO (Search Engine Optimization) purposes. Google likes to see frequent changes or updates to a site. It shows that someone’s home.

Final Thoughts

So that’s all that I have for now. Let me know what social media networks you use. Do you create web sites? What is your process? What do you think about SEO? Are keywords dead? In my next post I will talk more about what you should think about when creating a web site.
